Weather: A chiily but sunny day.

Report: (Mike Harrison) On a chilly, but pleasantly sunny day, 16 forayers from TVFG and HFRG found a total of 123 species. While there were not many of the larger mycorrhizal fungi about, there was enough variety to keep everyone interested . One of the finds of the day was the brown - spored cap fungus Melanotus horizontalis, looking a bit like a brown Crepidotus . Another find was Lanzia luteovirens - a little yellow cup fungus with a stem, typically growing on sycamore petioles.A dead foxglove stem produced the small white Calyptella capula, also present when HFRG last visited the Chase in 2009 . It was also good to see Pseudoboletus parasiticus growing on a Scleroderma citrina , in what seems to have been a favourable year for the latter species. Little white stipes growing from a spruce cone eventually matured into fruit bodies of Strobilurus esculentus, whose identification was confirmed by its characteristic crystalline cystidia.
