New to HFRG: Phellinus conchatus but previously found from this site by Martyn Ainsworth in 2005
Report: (Sue Rogerson and Eric Janke) A good number arrived despite the weather forecast not being very good but Alan still ignored it and everyone’s advice, forayed in his shirt sleeves only to get a soaking when the rain came in the late morning (while Eric was the only one with an umbrella). There were few agarics about for us to identify but there were a number of large brackets, including the large Perenniporia fraxinea we have seen before on the entrance to the site and a stack of Ganoderma australe having more than a passing resemblance to Fomes fomentarius. There were a few smaller specimens including the basidios (really!) Calyptella capula, Simocybe haustellaris and Typhula setipes and ascos Propolis farinosa (fka versicolor), Hymenoscyphus caudatus and H calyculus and Chlorociboria aeruginascens in abundance. Sue was delighted to find Epithele typhae (again!) and JP turned up Phellinus conchatus. Of the 75 records on the FRDBI for the last species this is only the 3rd record for Hampshire, the other 2 records also being from Leckford in 1999 and 2005. A good find.
The foray was abandoned after a stand up lunch in the rain, which turned out to have been the right decision given the conditions in the afternoon.
