Weather: Slightly overcast with some (limited) dampness over the previous week.

Report: (Eric Janke) Despite the dry conditions, both mycorrhizal and saprotrophic fungi were beginning to show, although it was slow going at times. There were a few Boletes and Russulas near the car park. Margaret spotted what Eric dismissed initially as R. Atropururea but the gill colour, iron reaction and “scent&rdquo suggested that faginea(TBC) was a better fit. Alan’s interest in the Russulacae had to wait until lunchtime, before we started to find any Lactarius but then several turned up including L piperatus and L cyathuliformis.

There was a new site for Aurantiporus alborubescens near the same lunch site as last year but the find of the day was a new site for Hericeum cirrhatum found by Alan on a beech log which also provided a good serving of Pleurotus ostreatus and several Simocybe sumptuosa.

It is worth noting that with a bit of juggling the record of H cirrhatum was 40,000th record on our database,

What was missing were any Agaricus to test the knowledge acquired the previous week on Geoffrey Kibby’s workshop..
