Report: (Eric Janke) Eyeworth pond is often a good site for Boletes in the late summer but they were overwhelmed on this occasion by that other common summer genus - Russula. Unusually, the group set off at a rapid pace from the car park led by Alan to check on the Piptoporous quercinus site. It was good to see that it was still flourishing with a couple of fresh fruiting bodies for the photographers. Following this highlight we set out along the grassy paths and rides in search of the hoped for Boletes. As it turned out, although there were several Boletus rubellus and a couple of large specimens of Boletus appendiculatus, the grass was a much better source of Russulas and soon Eric’s box was filling up with what turned out to be over 20 species, including 2 possibly new to the group, odorata and curtipes as well as several forms of the honey (ok, and marzipan)-scented meliolens. Barry’s mystery “robertii” look-alike awaits inspiration from Geoffrey Kibby. On the way back to the cars, Add found another new site for Hericeum cirrhatum, which must count as the find of the day and Eric found a lone Boletus luridiformis as a consolation prize for Alan.
