Weather: July had been moderately wet month encouraging fungal fruiting although the day itself was thankfully mostly sunny and dry for the annual BBQ.

Report: Linwood reserve is a SSSI just a few hundred yards from Sue's house, the venue for our annual group BBQ. It is a situated around a stream and surrounding alder bog but does have some higher ground with oak and other deciduous trees. Off particular interest in this reserve is a white fluffy dot of a fungus otherwise known as Flagelloscypha. Alan and Sue have possibly found one here which does not seem to fit the descriptions of known species but the only one found today was Flagelloscypha minutissima. Eric had a good day with twelve Russula species to keep him happy during the subsequent BBQ. Whilst the BBQ was being prepared Stuart and Paul demonstrated some microscope imaging hardware they had recently acquired. Paul had new 1.3Mp cam from Brunel to put into the microscope eyepiece and Stuart had a means of converting the output from the group's CCTV camera into an ordinary computer screen. Alan was once again our BBQ master chef, demonstrating another of his many talents. The BBQ, made by a friend of Alan's, was a hit in its own right and Alan was taking orders at a special rate for the HFRG. We had a wonderful afternoon in Sue's garden and must thank her and Alan for all their hard efforts in making this such a successs.
