Report: Report: (Roger Newton) The day started early with setting up of the microscopes in a room at the College. The Newtons brought along tea, coffee and cake. Malcolm Storey was our guest for the day and being an expert in all things fungi it was with great anticipation that we commenced the foray. One of the exciting outcomes of having someone who looks at a group of fungi we do not usually examine is the appearance of a flush of new names which was certainly the case on this occasion with the microfungi found by Malcolm as can be seen from the list above.
In the afternoon in addition to the customary identification session Malcolm delivered two presentations on his experience with using a camera to photograph specimens down a microscope. It was reassuring to hear that he too had had a series of difficulties in his quest for perfection over the years with various pieces of equipment, software and that bugbear of the photographer - dust. Choosing equipment often came down to good old method of trial and error. The presentations were very well received as was the one to one help Malcolm gave people afterwards with their own equipment. We all wish to thank you Malcolm for his time and sharing his experiences.
