Weather: The day was a glorious sunny day following a fairly dry week.

New Records:
New for Hampshire: Scutellinia barlae

Report: (Sue Rogerson): A beautiful day for Butser Hill foray. Scott could only join us for a short while but at least gave us some idea of which direction to head in as no one knew the site. The grassland had swathes of marvellous cowslips and one area had some orchids. It also produced a considerable amount of Tricholoma gambosa. It turned out to be a route march to reach any trees but this was rewarded by an amazing display of Polyporus squamosus. Both the fallen trunk of an ash and the standing trunk had an incredible number of fruit bodies. The standing trunk alone had over 40, all in very good condition - a photographer's paradise. This was about the lowest point of the site we visited so it was uphill all the way from here. At one point the party split and some took the grassy option while just 3 took the track with more scrubby vegetation along the side. What a good job we did. Mr hawkeyes Lucas spotted along the side of the path a Scutellinia amongst the vegetation and chalk. It turned out to be Scutellinia barlae. A new record for Hampshire and with only 11 records nationally on the FRDBI. This really made the day fungal wise as very few fungi were recorded. The only other specimen which although not uncommon is good to see was Steccherinum fimbriatum. After lunch we decided to find a bluebell wood nr. Clanfield that Vaughan had mentioned to us and what a picture it was.
