New to HFRG: Vuilleminia cystidiata, Pyrenopeziza pulveracea, Tricharina praecox var. praecox
Report: (SJS): The first foray of the year saw a good turn out of members including newcomers to the group Jacqui Darby and Carole Fenning who had travelled from Hertfordshire, not solely to join us I have to add. Martin Down is one of those fringe areas that have changed counties and is now in VC8 and Hampshire. The most prevalent of the larger spring fungi was Verpa conica (Thimble morel) which from other reports seems to have enjoyed a good year along with Calocybe gambosa (St George's Mushroom). Tina found one fine specimen of Agaricus campestris (Field mushroom) and several specimens of Bolbitius titubans (formerly vitellinus) provided a good photo opportunity. Amongst the lignicolous fungi Alan found Hymenochaete carpatica and Vuilleminia cystidiata with 9 and 31 previous records on the FRDBI respectively. The V. Cystidiata was new for VC8 and the only previous record in Hampshire was from last year at Baddesley Common. A couple of the firesites produced several ascos of which the most unusual was Tricharina praecox, an orange cup whose fruitbody was buried in the ash rather than lying on the surface. The other new record for the group, Pyrenopeziza pulveracea, a 'black dot' found by Sue growing on Filipendula ulmaria (meadow-sweet).
