Weather: Thankfully the rain held off for the foray following a week of rain and showers.

Report: There was a good turn out of members and guests for HFRG's second event of the UK Fungus Day weekend. Once again the Rufus Stone had a good range of fungi for us to see including several species of lactarius, russula and boletes in addition to the usual suspects growing on wood. These toadstools inspired one of the younger members to draw the fungi whilst we were in the field. There were two species of the iconic New Forest genus Hericium to see - H erinaceus (Bearded Tooth) and H coralloides (Coral Tooth) along with a beautiful specimen of the type species of Cortinarius - C violaceous (Violet Webcap). Apart from drawing fungi our artist of the day found the second only occurrence of what is a common fungus in chalk beechwoods but rare here, Mycena crocata a delicate bonnet fungus with its distinctive orange juice. A tiny fungus with a delicate pale brown scurfy cap that the group had not recorded before was found growing on beech masts and tracked down to be Flammulaster carpophilus var. subincarnata. UK Fungus day had produced something for everyone.
